generally popular both with the Nursing and with the Medical Staff. As Miss Maker is now on sick leave pending her retire- ment I have appointed Miss Sloan to act as Matron and I wish

now to recommend her for the permanent appointment on 12 months' probation.

Miss Sloan is at present on a dollar salary of

£110 rising to £150 and has attained her maximum,, the sterling salary scheme shows a salary of £150 rising to £200 by £25 triennially. This salary was based on the dollar salary of the post with single exchange compensation only: with double

exchange compensation the dollar salary is equivalent to £180 rising to £225. I therefore propose that the sterling salary should now be fixed at £175 rising to £225 by £25 triennially, with free furnished quarters, fuel and light, uniform, attend- ance and laundry and with conveyance allowance of £180 a year which is at present attached to the post.
